Fun With Television Casts

If I were shooting the old 90210 with the cast of Friends, I think I'd cast Gunther as David Silver.

Explanation: I was thinking (which is always dangerous) about a television show which has six main characters. As with many other shows in existence, those six characters consist of three men and three women. One male/female pair are siblings, but apart from them all of the other male/female pairs eventually are bound to have some sort of romantic involvement. Anyway, I feel like Friends and the original Beverly Hills 90210 both fall into this category, with Brenda/Brandon and Monica/Ross fulfilling the sibling roles. Naturally that led to pairing up the other characters.

I think Rachel and Jenny Garth's character (whose name escapes me) fit the same mold. That leaves Phoebe and Donna as the remaining women. Steve Sanders and Chandler are definitely the jokesters, which would leave Dylan and Joey as the womanizers. And then there's David Silver. He gets to be Gunther.

Now, if we were casting these shows with muppets... Well, I'll leave that up to you.

The Third Day

From the archives:

"Thursday! Look, if you need help remembering just think of it like this: the third day. All right, Monday, one-day, Tuesday, two-day, Wednesday, when? Huh? What day? Thursday! The third day, okay?"

Source: Joey, from Friends, explaining how he remembers that something is on Thursday.

Explanation: Since I am out of the office today, a Thursday, I can finally re-run this message.

The Velveeta Rabbit

From the archives:

"I got you this because I know you like rabbits and I know you like cheese."

Source: This is from the the Friends episode, The One With the Dirty Girl.

Explanation: Chandler, who is secretly in love with Joey's girlfriend, Kathy, offers to take care of buying a birthday present for her. He purchases an early edition of The Velveteen Rabbit, her favorite book. Kathy figures out that Chandler made the purchase and not Joey:

Kathy: The Velveteen Rabbit? I kinda have the feeling you had something to do with it.
Chandler: What do you mean?
Kathy: Well, when Joey gave it to me, he said, "This is 'cause I know you like rabbits and I know you like cheese."

Hold Me Close, Young Tony Danza

I think the most romantic song ever written was that one Elton John wrote for that guy on Who's the Boss.

Source: Taken from a quote by Phoebe on Friends.

Explanation: She goes on to sing "Hold me close, young Tony Danza." See, she messed up the lyrics to "Tiny Dancer" and thought it was about Tony Danza. This humor works because Tony Danza is just inherently funny. You know, like ducks, giant chickens, and Michael Jackson.

Special Blog Bonus: Here's a Family Guy clip about Tony Danza and Sylvester Stallone:

It's All Moo

It's all a moo point. Like a cow's opinion, it doesn't matter. It's moo.

Source: Friends

Explanation: Joey explaining a "moo point". This clip is available on YouTube. Unfortunately, the jerk poster doesn't allow embedding. How rude.

Special Blog Bonus: Because of the lack of embedded video, this post just looks lousy. So, enjoy a comic of the day:

Morning's Here!

Morning's here,
The morning is here!
Sunshine is here,
The sky is clear.
The morning's here,
Get into gear.
Breakfast is near,
The dark of night has disappeared.

Source: The One With All the Haste episode of Friends

Explanation: A guy opposite Joey's room sings this song every morning. When Rachel and Monica switch apartments with Monica and Rachel, Rachel wakes up to his singing, and not happily.

Apparently, the song is based on a flugelhorn instrumental piece by Chuck Mangione called "Feels So Good." And I can't type "flugelhorn" without A) giggling and B) putting up this link. (If you were the only flugelhorn player I knew, you'd get a link too!)

Special Blog Bonus:

Here's a clip of the Friends episode showing that Rachel isn't a morning person:

And here's Joey back in his room at the end of the episode singing along:

The Nether-Netherlands

From the archives:

"There are two types of people I hate in this world. Those who are intolerant of other people's culture, and the Dutch!"

Source: Austin Powers, from Goldmember.

Explanation: Apparently Austin Powers has some issues with Dutch people.

Disclaimer: We at Jeremy's Sametime Status Message blog have no complaints about the hardworking indigenous people of Dutchland.
