Classical Conditioning
Have a chocolate!
Source: From this week's Big Bang Theory, Sheldon was conditioning Penny with chocolates. Thanks for reading my blog. Here's a chocolate.
Sametime is the instant messaging client we use at work. It allows users to edit a status message to indicate "I am active" or "Working from home" or "I am at a meeting." Long ago, I got bored with simple messages like that and started coming up with something creative every day instead. These are my daily status messages.

If that football game were an emoticon, it would be colon capital D.
Source: This is blatantly ripped off from The Big Bang Theory, still one of the best written shows on television (in my humble opinion).
Explanation: The ninth-ranked University of Miami came to Blacksburg this weekend for a game against eleventh-ranked Virginia Tech in which Miami was somehow the overwhelming favorite. At the end of the day, the 'Canes walked out of Lane Stadium having been beaten down, 31-7. Now the Hokies, with only a loss to Alabama, are ranked #6. You can say that we are rivals with this school and that school, but few things feel better than beating Miami.

Rock Paper Scissors Lizard Spock
Source: I got this from The Big Bang Theory last night. When I looked it up, I discovered that it (sadly) was not original material. Somebody had already invented this game.
Explanation: When two people who know each other well play Rock-Paper-Scissors, three quarters of the games between those people end in a tie. To expedite the important decisions being made by such games, an advance was made which added two new symbols: Lizard and Spock. The rules are "simple":
Scissors cuts Paper, as usual.
Paper covers Rock, as usual.
Rock crushes Lizard.
Lizard poisons Spock.
Spock smashes Scissors.
Scissors decapitate Lizard.
Lizard eats Paper.
Paper disproves Spock.
Spock vaporizes Rock.
Rock crushes Scissors, as usual.
Here's a diagram with arrows from the winning symbols to the losing symbols:

I have dubbed this version of the game "Rochambeauchamro", which is much easier to say than "Rock Paper Scissors Lizard Spock." You can thank me later.

Yes, well, I am polymerized tree sap and you’re an inorganic adhesive. So whatever verbal projectile you launch in my direction is reflected off of me, returns in its original trajectory and adheres to you.
Source: Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory.
Explanation: Some people are rubber, some people are glue. Sheldon happens to be polymerized tree sap. I think it suits him.
Here are two clips from the show:

Ladies and gentlemen, honored daughters, while Mr. Kim, by virtue of his youth and naivety has fallen prey to the inexplicable need for human contact, let me step in and assure you that my research will go on uninterrupted and that social relationships will continue to baffle and repulse me. Thank you.
Source: Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory.
Explanation: The university recruits a child prodigy who is smarter than Sheldon. Sheldon decides it is pointless to continue his research and looks to assist his friends with their work. His friends successfully conspire to derail the prodigy (Mr. Kim) in order to get Sheldon off their back. As always, hilarity ensues.

The sun is shining,
Birds chirping. Life is better
When the Hokies win.
Explanation: Now, certainly I will concede to you that Georgia Tech, a very strong running team, came into the game with their top two running backs injured. That put the responsibility for their offense squarely on the shoulders of their quarterback, who apparently doesn't actually have very big shoulders. That being said, my Hokies responded to last Thursday's unspeakable heartbreak quite well, totally demoralizing the Yellow Jackets.
Haikus are better
Without all those censored words
Don't you think? "<BLEEP> yeah!"

Yeah, you saw what you saw. That's how we roll in the Shire.
Source: The Big Bang Theory, which is rapidly becoming my favorite show on television.
Explanation: This is from the Halloween episode. Leonard, who is dressed as Frodo, gets a big kiss in his apartment doorway from a drunken Penny. Penny's rather large, muscular ex-boyfriend sees it from Penny's apartment across the hall. Leonard says, "Yeah, you saw what you saw. That's how we roll in the Shire." He then runs into his apartment, slams the door, and locks the deadbolt.
I really like this show. I highly recommend that you check it out on Mondays on CBS. Since I like it, it will be canceled soon, so you'd better tune in ASAP!
